"SKINNY BRICK TOWN" Series of Buildings

Brick Trick artist Philip Buchan created an entire town of buildings, all constructed on very narrow "lots".

The scale of this series is suitable for minifigures, (and you'll see plenty of them hanging out on various balconies and many other places).

Above: A closer view of some of the buildings.  No two structures are exactly the same color scheme and all have unique architectural details.  Notice the small alley created between the blue and the gray buildings, which are only six pegs wide each.

2013 Row House Series

2013 SAN FRANCISCO ROW HOUSE SERIES

This series of 35 row houses was built by BrickTrick artist Philip Buchan.  The series mimics homes built from the late nineteen forties through the early nineteen fifties throughout several neighborhoods in San Francisco.  The structures in this collection were patterned after homes in the Miraloma Park neighborhood on the side of Mount Davidson.

This posting features images of another in the series of mid-century inspired architectural creations. BRICK TRICK artist Philip Buchan used photos of a home in a nearby suburb of SAN FRANCISCO as motivation for this project.

TAN TRI-LEVEL TOWNHOUSE

TAN TRI-LEVEL TOWNHOUSE

Philip's series of big city buildings continues with the TAN TRI-LEVEL TOWNHOUSE modeled after a three-story building here in SAN FRANCISCO. Philip first built the model working from a photograph using the DIGITAL DESIGNER software available from the brick manufacturer. Then he constructed the building using a combination of tan, white, black, cream, (aka light yellow), and dark orange bricks and parts.

Above: This shot shows the roof line detail and the arched windows on the second and third floors. Clear transparent 1x2 plates were used to create the window "glass".

This posting features the DARK GRAY & DARK PURPLE 3 STORY ROW HOUSE designed and built by BRICK TRICK artist Philip Buchan. As you'll see in the following images in this posting, Philip used a photo of an actual building as the inspiration for this project. He first created the building in bricks with the manufacturer's DIGITAL DESIGNER software. Then he used that rendering as a guide when constructing the actual house sculpture.

Above: The rendering created with design software which you can download from the brick manufacturer for free. This version has the trim specified as DARK BLUE, as unfortunately DARK PURPLE is not available in the digital design program.

Below: A close-up reveals the DARK GRAY bricks are at least two distinct different colors. This is because Philip intentionally mixed both "old" and "new" dark gray bricks which are known to be decidedly different. "New" gray and many other brick colors often vary in shades depending on which brick factory they were made in as well. Bricks are also affected easily by UV light, so keep your bricks out of the sun and don't leave them under your Halogen lights too long either. This shot also shows the checkerboard floor on the balcony and the "French Doors".

Greetings BRICK TRICK BLOG Friends!

We've all been busy building here in the BRICK TRICK studio, though Philip continues to create the most prolific amount of new work. So much new work, we actually had to take some things apart to make room for more BRICKS!

This posting features the RED BOW WINDOW HOUSE which was inspired by buildings of this type built here in SAN FRANCISCO, mostly in the 1950's. Many of these buildings are painted with very bold colors and the bow window architectural feature is a highly sought after element in resale homes. Philip took pictures of numerous bow window houses and studied the architecture before building this sculpture.

Above: Angelique is the custom minifigure angel designed to top the GIANT TREE in the HOLIDAY TOWN PARK. Angelique watches over everything and ensures peace and harmony for everyone. Angelique was built primarily with basic minifig parts, her "skirt" is a white slope and her "wings" are plate parts often used in airplane kits.
